LI. On Guidance

1. Those who seek to love God
are guided by Him to do good
by means of virtuous understanding and remembering.
 
2. God guides good thoughts
when these think about the beginning
and the middle, from which derives fulfilment (i.e. the end).
 
3. Whoever seeks to be well guided
must steer his heart towards charity,
patience and humility.
 
4. He who guides good loving
steers it towards considering
how it may cause people to honour God.
 
5. Man guides his power
when he invests it in great willing,
great goodness and <great> wisdom.[1]
 
6. Man guides his goodness
when he invests it in faithfulness,
justice <and> truth.
 
7. Whoever seeks to steer goodness
should obtain bonifying therefrom
and should invest it in magnifying.
 
8. He who steers himself towards virtue,
guides himself towards the safety
of understanding, remembering and willing.
 
9. Whoever turns away from wickedness
guides himself towards happiness (i.e. beatitude)
and enjoys virtue of will.
 
10. Steering a person towards the truth
and turning him away from falsehood
constitutes the fulfilment of goodness.
 
11. Christ has served as guide to all people
by the example He has shown,
but His example has been forgotten.
